Fushimi Inari is probably the most popular temple to visit in Kyoto, but, even though it easily made it to the top of my own list, I didn't know beforehand that it is apparently THE IT temple to go to. It's is probably in part because travel photography - instead of making me feel inspired like it is damn well supposed to - just makes me mopey and depressed that there are so many places I have yet to visit. And somehow, from the few photos that I did look at, the immediately striking visuals that attracted me didn't in any way click that they might also attract the entire rest of the world. It was sheer luck and scheduling necessity that I'd planned to go early in the morning, thereby barely missing the hordes of people that descended upon the place. Really, guys. Go early in the morning.
