Where I Ate in Reykjavik

Where I Ate in Reykjavik

Favorites:

Dill

Thoughts: This was my favorite meal of the trip. This restaurant is part of the New Nordic Movement and serves a beautiful and thoughtful tasting menu in downtown Reykjavik. Click here to see the full menu from my visit.

Vox

Thoughts: Although I only had a few dishes à la carte, I loved everything I ate and wish that I had tried more. Their weekend brunch is also supposedly regarded as one of the best in town.

Others:

Apotek

Thoughts: I was drawn to this restaurant by the beautiful presentation of their dishes. In person, however, I thought that this meal was fine, but it didn’t quite live up to expectations.

Fiskfélagið

Thoughts: This was another meal that I would categorize as being just fine. The menu felt like it was in the process of collecting stamps in its passport and learning who it is. Overall a bit fussy, but not a bad meal.

Humarhúsið

Thoughts: While I greatly enjoyed my starter, I was not as thrilled with my main dish. My overall impression of the food was somewhat neutral, but it must be said that the prices were quite steep.

Lækjarbrekka

Thoughts: I had a rather humble lunch here, taking advantage of the sunny weather to enjoy the back patio. While the offerings were refreshingly simple, I quite enjoyed it!

Snaps Bistro

This restaurant does French, brasserie-style cuisine with Scandinavian influences and Icelandic ingredients. Its food is simple but delicious. Extremely popular - be prepared to wait.

Drinks:

Slippbarrin

Thoughts: Although they have a full menu and a breakfast/brunch buffet, what I loved most about this place was the cocktails. Pro tip: if you sit at the bar, ask the bartender to make something off-menu with Icelandic ingredients.
