Betony

Update: Closed [sad face]

It would seem that in the past couple years, there have been a few restaurants that I've only finally eaten at just before their closing. But this is neither a reflection of the quality of those restaurants nor the level of my desire to eat there. Contrary to what my photos may depict, I actually somewhat seldom do tasting menus outside of travel, which may be in part related to me almost never being able to convince anyone to go with me. The latest of these restaurants would be Betony (which is still open until the end of the month!). I've wanted to eat there ever since seeing photos of their food on photographer Signe Birck's instagram, but I did not make it there until after the recent announcement of their upcoming closure. Although the reason has not been disclosed, from the meal that I experienced, I would conclude that it could not be related to the quality of their food or service. In all likelihood, I would peg this as a case of the rent being too damn high. I would like to thank all of their talented team for a lovely evening, and I wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors.

If planning on beginning your meal with a cocktail, might I recommend one of the milk punches? It appears to be their signature cocktail, and they take them rather seriously. I had a Reserve Milk Punch of gin, lemon, and Earl Grey. The was the perfect start of the meal.
